Preview ArtScience

Hydra-facebook2The ArtScience Interfaculty at the Royal Academy of the Arts and the Royal Conservatory of Den Haag will present their preview exhibition to showcase the graduation works by bachelor and master students in their final stages.

The exhibition will take place on Friday, May 23rd at 20:00, at GEMAK Vrije Academie in Den Haag. The exhibition will continue until Sunday, May 25, 17:00.

The exhibition carries the title “The Royal Institute of Hydra Studies”; a way of presenting 11 different artistic practices in a cohesive manner; a creature of many heads that nevertheless belong to one body.
The Hydra was a mythological creature that shared the world with people: there was a real fear of its presence. It was a many-headed snake from the marshes of Lerna, whose heads grew back twofold as they were severed by Hercules.

The many headed creature stands for a gathering of autonomous minds who often have contradictory ideas but nevertheless share a common disciplinary background, and therefore a certain degree of consensus. We honour the heritage of the Royal educational facilities that we attend with the title The Royal Institute of Hydra Studies: we elevate this stubborn mythical creature to a level worthy of serious research, whether it be artistic, scientific or poetic in nature.

11 students are graduating: Bachelors Moritz Alive, Áron Birtalan, John Fanning, Gaby Felten and Ronald Schelfhout, and Masters Sebastian Frisch, Jonathan Reus, Jet Smits, Angela de Weijer and Emily Whitebread.
The biographies of these graduating artists can be found at http://stichting.interfaculty.nl/

This exhibition is made possible by GEMAK Vrije Academie, Fonds 1818, Koninklijke Academie van Beeldende Kunsten, Koninklijk Conservatorium te Den Haag, Vedett Beer, and Stichting ArtScience.

MADCOW reviewMADCOW pg 2MADCOW pg 4

Hooray!!! Victoria Douka-Doukopoulou (1th year student ArtScience)  recently had the opportunity to contribute an exhibition review to the TKTNK publication about MADCOW performance-installation in Veghel.

“I know a great amount were present for the performance-installation as a result of the ArtScience researchgroup in a Former Fodder Factory, for the rest I hope the essay helps!”

TKTNK is a publication founded by the Barnard + Columbia Architecture Society deeply interested in the conditions giving rise to new topics that benefit from the design imagination of undergraduate students across a range of disciplines.
